Evergreen

It was forever, that safety in your voice,
Eyes like an evergreen forest under a red sunset,
The face of an entire horizon,

It always felt as though looking on at something endless,
What I couldn't find, I imagined,
Those were the dreams I kept,

Your patience, kindness in those eyes, and the way they followed me,
The warmth of a familiar touch,
Finally found solid ground,

Their beauty became reality when I watched you wake up,
When you opened those eyes and they sparkled as they saw the sun,
It was the wind that hit my sails, the gaze that I fell in love with,

The way I suffered when you were away couldn't compare to anything else,
I needed your strength when I didn't know what it meant to be strong,
Climbed out from beneath what felt like decades of lost years,

Whatever emptiness left,  took time to be filled,
That forest didn't need to see rain often,
Strove forward when storms were brought forth,

Evergreen eyes, sensual lips and body,
The foundation that bore my regrets, my faith, and my love,
All that I was, you kept, and the world that you were, I held in my arms.
